Title: Director, Marketing and Communications

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

The Red River Exhibition Association has been a part of the community for over 70 years. We are much more than just the 10 days of the annual Red River Ex. With over 230 event days on our multipurpose site and with new facilities already under construction we expect to double the number of events and activities we host over the next several years. The Association also reaches out into the community with the Red River Exhibition Foundation and over 250 children in the 3 locations of our Festival Early Learning and Child Care Centres. The Association manages several external organizations including the Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame and the Manitoba Standardbred Racing Industry as well as advocating for various community groups. We are aggressively expanding and looking for a professional that can provide dynamic leadership working with our small executive team to grow our business. This is not a traditional marketing and communications position since the entire team is fully engaged in delivering a truly exceptional customer experience to all of our clients whether it be an event, corporate trade show, consumer show, wedding or one of the many events that take place at Red River Exhibition Park.

Summary

The Director, Marketing and Communications is responsible for the development and implementation of all marketing and communications strategies for the organization. This individual will oversee the development of goals, strategies, and implementation plans to execute comprehensive marketing campaigns. The incumbent will promote the creation, enhancement and development of programs to promote the Red River Exhibition Association and its services. Some marketing goals will include maintaining brand integrity and strategically positioning the company as a leader in event management. The Director, Marketing and Communications will also oversee the launch and management of new products, services, and associated brands to meet profitability goals and targets.

Duties

  • Initiate research, development, and implementation of new marketing programs, including social media marketing, advertisements, sales tools and other initiatives.
  • Develop and promote branding initiatives consistent with corporate business goals and objectives.
  • Maximize brand value through the development of ancillary revenue streams and new opportunities.
  • Research and produce grant and sponsorship proposals.
  • Ensure all products, services, and other offerings conform to brand identity; conduct ongoing brand management.
  • Work with our staff team to produce marketing collateral in accordance with brand messages.
  • Develop marketing plans within budget requirements.
  • Collaborate with our team to identify internal and external customer needs.
  • Communicate and negotiate with promotional partners as needed for joint marketing activities.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on similar industry activities; make recommendations based on findings/opportunities discovered.
  • Develop, manage and execute an annual strategic marketing and communications plan to span across all communication media (online and offline) and reach appropriate target audiences, based upon specific performance goals.
  • Evaluate the success of various communication strategies and provide and implement recommendations for improvement.
  • Analyze potential new products/media to enhance the marketing/communications work.
  • Develop, manage and produce materials to create a cohesive image and message for print and all offline communication vehicles.
  • Ensure that all materials are developed and distributed according to an appropriate timeline.
  • You will work within our leadership team to develop new facilities and dramatically expand the number of events and activities on site as well as new business ventures.
  • Oversee the development, management and maintenance of all online communication vehicles.
  • Provide strategic leadership. Set the yearly agenda for the marketing activities and actively manage to accomplish goals.
  • Coordinate with third party events to assist in the promotion of their events
  • Develop and manage online ticket sales activity.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • University degree in marketing, advertising or business administration, or equivalent.
  • Work experience in the not-for-profit or tourism sector preferred.
  • 5 years of direct work experience in a marketing management capacity.
  • Excellent understanding and familiarity with brand building and brand management.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in internet marketing techniques, technologies, and solutions.
  • Highly effective project management, prioritization, multi-tasking, and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and co-ordinate the end-to-end development process while meeting deadlines and budget requirements.

  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
  • Have a strong understanding of the Winnipeg and Manitoba market.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle required.
  • Must be available to work extended hours as required.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to attend and conduct presentations.
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
  • Willingness to work outdoors during events.
  • Although not common some weekend work may be required to manage large events.
  • This is an in office position.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $70,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
